Avon Park Avon Park, aka The City of Charm, was founded in 1886 as "Lake Forest" by Oliver Martin Crosby of Connecticut. One of the settlers convinced Crosby to rename the settlement to Avon Park as she felt the area was reminiscent of her home of Stratford-upon-Avon in England.
